THE IMMENSE JOY AND CONVERSION AT THE CHURCH SAN DAMIANO

Francis continued to drift as he wondered and waited for something to justify his life. He wandered down the hills of Assisi, where he found a small abandoned church. As he entered the ruins, he came across an old crucifix with a painted image of Jesus (Byzantine late 9th Century A.D.). Did he hear a voice or was he dreaming? It was clearly that voice again, saying “Francis, begin now and help rebuild my church.” At this point it was the greatest spiritual moment of his life. Francis taking this sign literally placed the first stone to rebuild San Damiano (Later to be the convent of Saint Clare).

L’IMMENSA GIOIA E LA CONVERSIONE NELLA CHIESA DI SAN DAMIANO

Francesco continuo a girovagare in cerca del significato della sua vita. Vagando per le colline di Assisi, trovo una chiesetta abbandonata. Entrando fra le rovine, trovo un vecchio crocefisso con dipinta l’immagine di Gseu (Bizantino, fine 9 seccolo d.c.). Senti una voce, o sogno? Chiaramente la voce repete: “Francesco, da ora ainta a ricostruire la mia chiesa.” Questo fu il momento pui intenso della sua vita spiituale. Francesco, ubbidendo alla lettera, pose la prima pietra per ricostruire San Damiano (pui tardi il convento di Santa Chiara).
